"Charles Street" by Marc Yankus

Marc Yankus' training as a painter is apparent in his atmospheric photographs. Yankus incorporates textures that he scans from a variety of materials, many of them archival, into his photography to produce foggy landscapes that linger in the mind. The lights of the city are dimmed, but not extinguished, providing a focal point of colour in the hazy settings. The marriage of old and new is a blend of soft focus, scratches from flea market tintypes and subtle patterns from the musty pages of old books.
Work by Marc Yankus will be shown at Clampart in New York from November 29 through January 3, 2009.
